Sunil Gavaskar wants MS Dhoni and Shikhar Dhawan to play Domestic Cricket

MS Dhoni was not in the form in the recent times and has been dropped from the T20I Squad against West Indies and Australia. With the ICC Cricket World Cup is approaching his form is quite a matter of worry.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni already quit Test cricket and after being dropped it has been said that his T20I career may also come to end. MS Dhoni Biography exhibits him as a boy from Ranchi whose idol was Sachin Tendulkar and whose hard work and dedication towards cricket made him the best finisher.

But as the time passed, it is said that Dhoni is no more the finisher as he used to be. Former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar feels that Dhoni should play more domestic cricket to get his form back.

On the other hand, MS Dhoni does not wish to test his abilities in the ongoing Ranji Trophy for Jharkhand. The reports stated that he does not wish to block a spot in the Jharkhand team as he has dropped Test cricket.

Sunil Gavaskar said that Dhoni did not play the T20Is and Tests against Australia and before that he also didn't play Tests against West Indies. So, he last played in October and will next play in January which will be a huge gap. And if he does not play well on tours of Australia and New Zealand then that will arise more questions on his place in the upcoming World Cup.

Sunil Gavaskar said that as a player gets older and if there is a gap in competitive cricket then his reflexes will slow down. He said that if a player plays any form of cricket at the domestic level then they get an opportunity to play long innings and which serves as a good practice for them.

On the other hand, opener Shikhar Dhawan who was out from the Indian squad after a bad Test series against England also chooses to remain away from representing Delhi cricket in the ongoing Ranji Trophy.

Sunil Gavaskar said, "We shouldn't ask Dhawan and Dhoni 'why you are not playing domestic cricket'. We should, in fact, ask the BCCI and selectors that why are they allowing players to skip domestic cricket when they are not on national duty. If the Indian team has to do well, players have to be in prime form and for that, they have to play cricket,".
