How these famous Indian Cricketers got their Nicknames

Indian National Cricket Team players share a good bond among themselves. From sharing the same dressing room to performing together on the field their bond keeps on increasing. Here are the nicknames of some famous Indian Cricketers and the reasons behind their nicknames.

Current Indian Cricket Team Captain Virat Kohli who is called Cheeku by MS Dhoni many times from behind the stumps. But it was not Dhoni who gave him this nickname. The story goes back to the past when he was a youngster. The young Virat was worried about the hair fall and get his hair cut short.

When next day he came on the field, his state coach Ajit Chaudhary called him Cheeku because of the long ears. Cheeku is the character who resembles the rabbit from comic Champak.

Former Indian Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is known as Captain Cool, Mahi, Thala, MSD, MS Dhoni, and MS. He is also nicknamed as "The Finisher" because of his explosive style of finished matches. Mahendra Singh Dhoni nicknamed as Mahe as a short of Mahendra but then as he gained fame, his fans started calling him Mahi.

MS Dhoni is also called as Captain Cool as he is the most successful captain in Indian Cricket history who remains cool on the field and takes decisions with a cool, calm and composed mind while on the field or away from the field.

Dhoni is known as Thala because once he posted a picture of him in a yellow jersey where Thala was written on it. MS Dhoni who lead Chennai Super Kings in IPL is Chennai crowd favorite and they call him Thala which means leader in Tamil.

Indian Opener Rohit Sharma is popularly known as Hitman. He is also known as Shaana and Ro. It was Yuvraj Singh who gave Rohit his nickname Shaana. Yuvraj thinks that Rohit is the 'wise guy' of the team.

Rohit Sharma’s fans call him Hitman due to his excellent batting ability and his wife gave him the nickname Ro which many of his teammates also use.
