All you need to know about Gautam Gambhir

Born in New Delhi, Gautam Gambhir was adopted by his grandparents soon after his birth and he lived with them after then. He started playing cricket when he was just 10 years old and in 2000, he was selected for the first intake of the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore.

Former Indian Cricketer Gautam Gambhir plays for Delhi in domestic cricket. He captained Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League. He is one among the good captains who captained Team India in six ODIs with India winning all six matches.

Gautam Gambhir formed the main part of Team India in World Twenty20 and Cricket World Cup 2011, Team India won them both. Under his captaincy, Kolkata Knight Riders won two IPL titles in the year 2012 and 2014.


Gambhir is the only Indian player who has scored centuries in five consecutive Test matches. He is also one of the four international cricketers to achieve this landmark.

Former Indian Cricketer Gautam Gambhir is the only Indian batsman who has scored more than 300 runs in four consecutive Test series. He was also the sixth highest run-scorer for India in Twenty20 Internationals till April 2018.

In 2008, the 37-year old cricketer was awarded the Arjuna Award which is India's second highest sporting award by the President of India. Gambhir form in Test cricket was amazing, in the year 2009, he was awarded the ICC Test Player of the Year award.

Gambhir shares some wonderful partnerships with Virender Sehwag. Their average was set

almost 88, with 25 stands of 50 plus in 38 innings. The pair makes the record for the fastest-scoring pair, they have scored runs for more than 4.5 over.

Gambhir also ranked Number 1 batsman in ICC Test rankings for the year 2009. Recently, ahead of IPL Auction 2019, Gautam Gambhir announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on 3 December 2018.
