Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid Mindblowing Partnership

On 26th May 1999, during India’s World Cup match against Sri Lanka at Taunton in England, the partnership between the two most amazing duo of Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid was amazing and unique. Both of them put together 318 runs for India. It was then a record-breaking partnership in ODIs.

Sadagoppan Ramesh and Sourav Ganguly opened the batting for Team India but India lost an early wicket of Ramesh when he was removed by Chaminda Vaas for 5 but this early fall did not affect the Indian side instead fans got to see the mindblowing partnership of two great players.

Rahul Dravid came at number three to bat. Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid put together the 2nd-wicket partnership of 318 runs to help India score a massive 373 runs at the loss of 6 wickets in their 50 overs in a group match.

It was Rahul Dravid who started the initial attack by playing some beautiful shots on both sides of the wicket. Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid both scored a ton.

Unfortunately, in the 46th over, India lost their second wicket at 324 runs. Rahul Dravid was run out for 145 which brought the end to the partnership of 318 runs. Sourav Ganguly though continued his attack and had slammed 183 runs in just 158 deliveries. He hit 17 boundaries and 7 massive sixes.

It was the first World Cup for Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid. Three years later after their sensational test debut in England, both the players had by then become an integral part of the Indian batting line-up.

The partnership between them was the highest for any wicket in the World Cup at that time. In 1999 itself, Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid put together 331 runs. Then Chris Gayle and Marlon Samuels surpassed them in the 2015 ICC World Cup against Zimbabwe by putting together 372 runs.
